Celebrating one year of ownership of The Island Time we return to one of our favorite campgrounds.  In fact we are back at site #37 which is the site we stayed at on our very first outing.  I am not sure how that happened but it is pretty cool!

With that coincidence, I can not help but reflect on our first outing here.  We picked up the trailer at Dick Gore on a Saturday morning and following the philosophy of one of the great philosophers, Captain Ron, we decided “if it is going to happen, it is going to happen out there”, so we headed through Jacksonville toward Stagecoach in St. Augustine.  After making a stop to arrange for storage and stopping at the house to load we headed out on our first adventure.

Once we got to Stagecoach we discovered that we could not unhook the trailer from the ML.  After many struggles and phone support from the dealer, the local manager from Dick Gore stopped by to show us “rookies” how to unhook.  After about 45 minutes of his efforts we finally unhooked.  In retrospect we now know what happened.  At delivery they put a silicone spray lube on the hitch, but it was not adequate for the task.  It seems that the ball was likely welded to the coupler just enough to not release.  Lesson learned, we now use plenty of grease every time.

Well here we are a year later and seem to enjoy every outing more than the prior.  There is just something in these adventures that sits well with my wandering soul.

Thanks,

Captain Skip

PS: I just acquired a new Nikon D5200 so pictures are soon to come!
