October 13, 2026 | Aboard Celebrity Summit

By Lumen Aid, Roving Reporter

Fourteen days into this adventure, your roving reporter has made an interesting discovery.

The Celebrity Summit apparently has no intention of revealing all her secrets at once.

Just when her passengers begin to think they know their way around, she presents another unexplored corner, another spectacular view, or a waiter with suspiciously talented silverware.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Morning Has Broken

Our day began with an audience of empty lounge chairs and an ocean stretching toward a horizon that seemed to go on forever.

The sky couldn’t quite decide whether to be cloudy or sunny, so it settled for both. Patches of blue peeked through layers of gray while the morning light illuminated the distant clouds.

Jeannie continued her walks around Deck 11, taking the interior stairs whenever possible. There is exercise to be had, certainly, but the real reward is the salt air, the warmth of the sun, and the opportunity to appreciate where God has brought these two travelers.

And occasionally, the perfect photograph.

Now, your roving reporter has seen a few life preservers in his travels. They’re generally red, round, and not particularly inclined to inspire philosophical reflection.

But this one was different.

Framed against a brilliant opening in the clouds, the life preserver seemed to tell a story of its own.

A reminder of rescue. Of being saved when we cannot save ourselves.

And of the One who offers us something infinitely more important than a flotation device.

Some photographs capture a moment.

Others capture a message.

Jeannie recognized this one immediately.

X Marks the Spot!

While exploring the upper decks, our travelers turned their attention to that enormous white X adorning the Summit’s blue smokestack.

Your roving reporter conducted an investigation.

No magnifying glass was required. The evidence was approximately the size of a small building.

It turns out the X isn’t simply a stylish logo.

Celebrity Cruises was founded by the Greek Chandris shipping family, and the symbol represents the Greek letter Chi, which looks like an X and begins the Chandris name in Greek.

A little company history, hiding in plain sight above the passengers’ heads.

Which raises an important question.

How many times can two people look at something before they finally see it?

Apparently, in this case, about two weeks.

The Long and Winding Road

Speaking of seeing familiar things differently, Jeannie and Skip continued discovering areas of the ship they hadn’t previously explored.

After nearly two weeks onboard!

The Summit evidently has more nooks and crannies than an English muffin.

Consider, for example, this glass elevator lobby.

Most elevator lobbies offer passengers a choice of buttons and perhaps a decorative plant.

Celebrity offers the ocean.

Not a bad view while waiting for a ride!

And then there’s the hallway leading to their stateroom.

Jeannie has entitled this masterpiece Tunnel Vision.

Look carefully toward the far end. Yes, that’s the same hallway.

At least there are no toll booths along the way.

And should you lose your sense of direction, just keep walking until you reach tomorrow.

It’s All a Matter of Perspective

And then there was Skip.

Never one to overlook an opportunity for a little photographic mischief, he discovered something rather amusing at the ship’s ice cream counter.

From one angle, the sign proudly announced SCOOPS.

Perfectly appropriate for an ice cream shop.

But move just a few steps, allowing a conveniently placed column to conceal the first two letters, and suddenly the establishment has undergone a rather unfortunate name change.

OOPS!

Your roving reporter cannot help wondering whether this might be the more appropriate name for the counter when someone accidentally drops an ice cream cone.

No camera tricks. Just one observant husband, one strategically located column, and a sense of humor that continues to entertain us.

Rest assured, no ice cream was wasted during the reporting of this event.

Same place. Different perspective. Entirely different story.

And that, dear readers, may be the most entertaining illustration of today’s theme yet.

An Italian Dinner with a Side of Magic

This evening brought our travelers to Tuscan Grille for their second specialty dining experience.

And judging by the report received at headquarters, nobody left hungry.

Their waiter explained that the entire menu was available without restrictions and gently encouraged them to pace themselves.

Excellent advice, considering what followed.

Antipasti. Fresh bread. Burrata.

Ah, burrata!

Until a few evenings ago, Jeannie had never tasted this creamy Italian cheese. Now she’s encountered it twice, each prepared with different seasonings.

At this rate, we may need to add burrata connoisseur to her travel résumé.

Then came the main attractions.

For Skip, a ribeye steak.

For Jeannie, filet mignon.

Accompanying these masterpieces were shared servings of sautéed spinach and polenta fries.

The verdict?

Delicious!

And because the waiter’s advice had been followed, there was still room for dessert.

Skip chose strawberry shortcake, while Jeannie selected pistachio crème brûlée with a chocolate base.

Your roving reporter would like to pause here and respectfully inquire why no samples were forwarded to headquarters.

But dessert wasn’t the final surprise.

Apparently, the waiter had been moonlighting as a magician.

Armed with a cloth napkin and a spoon, he introduced the diners to a remarkable little performer he called Spoony.

Spoony began dancing above the napkin.

Then, before their astonished eyes, Spoony underwent a mysterious transformation.

Behold!

Forky!

And the dancing continued.

Your roving reporter has encountered plenty of silverware during this assignment, but none previously demonstrated a talent for choreography.

The real magic, however, was the waiter’s obvious delight in entertaining his guests.

His enjoyment was contagious.

And that’s the sort of hospitality that transforms a wonderful dinner into a lasting memory.

The Irish Are at It Again

From Tuscan Grille, our travelers made their way directly to the theater for the 9:00 performance.

And wouldn’t you know it?

Another Irish headliner!

The evening featured violinist Máiréad Nesbitt performing Emerald Elegance, accompanied by the Summit’s excellent orchestra.

Now, playing the violin requires considerable coordination.

Dancing requires coordination.

Spinning, hopping, and moving through an audience require still more coordination.

Doing all of those things simultaneously while producing beautiful Celtic music?

Your roving reporter can barely imagine it.

In fact, I’m reasonably certain that if I attempted such a performance, the violin would require repairs, the audience would require evacuation, and I would require medical attention.

But Máiréad made it look effortless.

Her sparkling gown swirled around her as she moved across the stage, the music soaring above the orchestra.

Two consecutive evenings featuring Irish performers, and two thoroughly delighted audiences.

Ireland, we salute you!

Still Discovering Summit

After nearly two weeks aboard, Jeannie and Skip are still discovering new corners of the Summit, new experiences, and occasionally, new ways to look at the familiar.

Who knew an ice cream shop could change its name simply by moving a few feet? Or that a spoon could become a fork without visiting the dishwasher?

But perhaps the most remarkable discoveries are the ones waiting just beyond the railing.

As the day drew to a close, soft pinks and glowing oranges stretched across the horizon, painting one more masterpiece over the Caribbean.

No orchestra. No magician. No clever camera angle required.

Just the handiwork of our Editor in Chief.

Today reminded us that adventure isn’t always about going somewhere new. Sometimes it’s about seeing something familiar with fresh eyes.

Tomorrow?

Well, who knows what else the Summit has been keeping to herself?

Your roving reporter intends to find out.

Until then, keep looking up, looking around, and looking for reasons to give thanks.
