At Tampa International Airport, the next handoff involved an automated people mover carrying passengers from the main terminal toward the airside gates.
There is something satisfying about beginning a major trip by stepping onto a train that has no driver.
Theo would probably approve.
United Flight 2019 then handled the largest geographical leap, carrying Jeannie and Skip from Tampa to Los Angeles.
After landing at LAX, LUXY took over, with a flesh and blood human driver, taking them south toward San Pedro and the Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Harbor.
By then, the journey had already involved cars, an airport train, an airplane and another car service.
Hence the name:
Intermodal Anecdotal.


But the reward was waiting upstairs.
From their hotel window, Los Angeles Harbor spread out below them—not as a postcard harbor, but as a working one.
Container ships, cruise ships and pleasure craft moved through the same busy waters, seemingly without conflict. Cranes rose over stacked containers. Bridges crossed the landscape. Commercial traffic and recreational boats shared the port as though this elaborate choreography happened every day.
Which, of course, it does.
To visitors, it looked enormous and complicated.
To the harbor, it was simply Tuesday.
Somewhere within that vast working port was the place where Celebrity Summit would soon become home.
But first, there was San Pedro.
